The Wendy House Nursery Ltd
We provide good quality childcare for children aged 0-5 years. We have an amazing team of Early Years Educators, including a fully qualified teacher.

We are a family run business offering affordable and flexible childcare to local families, with a strong focus on teaching and learning. During our most recent Ofsted visit in July 2021, we were graded 'Good' in all areas. We have a good team consisting of experienced and qualified practitioners. We encourage parents to be involved in their child's learning and send home weekly learning letters. We have a full time qualified teacher on site to maximise learning and development. We have end of term reports and have two parents evenings per year.
Healthy meals and snacks are prepared on site. We have been awarded a 5* Food Hygiene Rating by Environmental Health - we have maintained this for the past 6 years.
We have updated our environment to reflect The Curiosity Approach. This is a modern day approach to Early Years taking parts from Reggio, Steiner, Te Whariki and a sprinkle of Montessori. This approach uses authentic resources, recycled materials and loose parts, encouraging children to use their imaginations and be creative. We have been implementing this approach for over a year now and it has had such an amazing impact on all of our children.
Staff are constantly evaluating the quality and consistency of learning within the nursery. We have high standards and believe all children deserve the very best learning opportunities.
We take great pride in the children’s 'learning journeys' and ensure parents view them on a regular basis. During our last Ofsted inspection we were praised for Literacy, Numeracy and PSED being strongly embedded in our practice. We have regular group times throughout the day to ensure children are making good progress with their development.
Our nursery has a very loving atmosphere and all practitioners are passionate about creating such a loving environment. The environment is almost all open plan, which is highly stimulating and educational.
We have a strong focus on 'Every Child Matters' and every individual has sensitive needs which must be met. Each child has their own key worker, which is responsible for the child's wellbeing on a daily basis.
We have a high emphasis on equal opportunities and plan activities to each individual child's needs.
Our nursery is mainly open plan, although we do have clearly defined areas. We have a baby room, which is separated into two rooms. One room is multi-sensory, which is ideal for relaxing and sleep. The other room is equipped for messy play and has access to outdoors. Our toddler room is spacious and inviting, with direct access to the bathroom to promote independence with hand washing and toilet training. Pre-school is our largest room, which is at the heart of nursery. Again this room promotes independence and has a strong focus on teaching and learning. The outdoor area has two sections, one of which is under shelter. So whatever the weather, children will have access to the outdoors. The area is safe and secure, with exciting learning opportunities, which are accessed daily.
We have a strong emphasis on working with parents and all children are allocated a key person. Weekly learning letters inform parents of our activities for the week and we welcome parent contribution.
Practitioners speak with parents during drop off and picking up times and meet regularly with parents to discuss progress.
We work with many professionals within the Wigan area, to ensure we are offering the best practice possible. We work with the Local Authority to ensure we implement new strategies, we also work with speech and language therapists, health visitors and physio therapists.
