First Steps at RL Hughes Out-of-school & Holiday club

We provide out-of-school and holiday club care for 51 weeks of the year (excluding Christmas) for children from 3-11 years.

First Steps at RL Hughes is a wrap around care facility based on the site of RL Hughes primary school. All staff hold level 3 childcare qualifications and one staff member holds a level 5.

All staff are First Aid trained and are included in an ongoing personal development training programme to ensure they are kept up-to-date with current policies, procedures and changes to legislation. There is a very low turnover of staff and this ensures stability for the children.

All activities are planned according to the children's individual needs, by the children, with support from staff i.e. according to personal interests, and children have free access to a large selection of resources.

Outdoor play is an important aspect and is encouraged as children have access to a safe outdoor play area. 

The out-of-school club has access to a variety of school facilities and are able to enjoy the extensive outdoor play area and the indoor gym space. 

We run breakfast clubs, after-school clubs and holiday clubs during all school holidays except the Christmas holiday. 

We also offer a walking bus drop off/collection service to nearby St Oswald's school.

We operate an open-door policy and parents are welcome to come and see us at any time. The children's wellbeing and happiness are of paramount importance to us and we welcome any suggestions as to ways we could improve our service. 

We welcome children who have additional needs and if it is something we may not be familiar with or trained on, we will endeavour to access training to enable the child to attend our setting and to ensure that we have all necessary resources in place to make the child's time with us happy and comfortable.
