First Steps at RL Hughes Out of school & Holiday club

We provide out of school and holiday club care for 51 weeks of the year (excluding Christmas) for children from 3-11 years.

First Steps at Cansfield has been established since 1994. Our out of school club, First Steps at RL Hughes has been running at RL Hughes Primary school for 8 years.

All staff hold level 3 childcare qualifications and one staff member holds a level 5.

All staff are First Aid trained and are included in an ongoing personal development training programme to ensure they are kept up to date with current policies & procedures and changes to legislation. There is a very low turnover of staff that ensures stability for the children.

All activities are planned according to the children's individual needs by the children with support from staff i.e. personal interests and children have free access to a large selection of resources.

Outdoor play is an important aspect and is encouraged as children have access to a safe outdoor play area. 

The out of school club has access to a variety of school facilities and are able to enjoy the extensive outdoor play area and the indoor gym space. 

We run breakfast clubs, afterschool clubs and holiday clubs during all school holidays except the Christmas holiday. 

We also offer a walking bus drop off/ collection service to nearby schools.
